Selection Stones and Pearls

B a s e l w o r l d S e l e c t i o n / 2 0 1 3.1/D01 P i a t The Piat company specialises in finding exceptional natural gemstones and comprises three generations of gemstone and fine stone enthusiasts. It all began in Haut Jura in 1922. This region of France is renowned for its highly skilled craftsmanship in jewellery and watchmaking. The company founder learnt the profession of the lapidary here and went on to win the Meilleur Ouvrier de France craftsmanship competition. He created his own workshop in Paris in 1929. Later, his son-in-law Daniel Piat joined him to develop the stonecutting workshop. He travelled the world to obtain the rough gemstones which were used to supply the stone cutters of Jura. In 1962, he went on to found the French Gemmology Association which runs courses for retailers in France. In 1998 Emmanuel Piat, the youngest son of Daniel Piat, took over the reins of the company. He subsequently moved the company to premises on rue de la Paix. Piat has had an international dimension since the very first generation and is committed to providing its customers with a level of service and reliability which  underpin its reputation. These exceptional gemstones are acquired from international suppliers close to the source in Sri Lanka, East Africa and Colombia. Piat selects its stones based on the most stringent criteria set by its customers at place Vendôme. In order to refine the stones supplied and make them suitable for the customers, Piat created a lapidary workshop and invested in tooling and expertise. Today, three lapidaries continue this tradition in addition to innovating. They cut the coloured stones in order to optimise the reflexion, create an unrivalled sparkle and give the stones the recognisable “French touch”. The Piat company seeks to innovate and support its customers in developing their profession. In order to supply calibrated stones, Emmanuel Piat created Rubicon (www.rubicon.co.th) with his brother Eric. This base in Thailand supplies its international customers directly.
