Horovitz & Totah S.A. is a reputable gem- stone dealer and has been involved with regulating and creating a nomenclature for coloured gemstones for close to 25 years. Ronny Totah has also been organising an international conference since 1989, bringing together all the players involved in the precious and natural coloured stones business with a view to encouraging labo- ratories to introduce common standards. “This campaign has enabled us to improve information in order to regulate the identification of heated and treated stones and to determine the country of origin of these stones. It’s an ongoing battle!” Ronny Totah confirms. Having served as Chairman of the Technical Committee for the International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA) in New York, he is now a member of the Board of Directors for the Swiss Gemmological Institute SSEF in Basel, Switzerland. This work in various institutions involves a personal code of conduct which he imposes on himself in his work. As a dealer in exceptional gemstones, he is renowned in particular for his Kashmir sapphire collection. “I have been passionate about this stone for the last 30 years. I even had a study published on this stone, which is rarely heat treated because this results in a loss of all the characteristics that allow the stone’s origins to be identified.” Ronny Totah’s family has been in the stone business since 1968 and he founded his own company in 1990 with Eric Horovitz, who has since retired. The additional activities undertaken by Horovitz & Totah include a selection of antique diamond and natural pearl jewellery items such as these magnificent tiaras dating from 1910, immersing us in another era. For the last seven years, the company has also been a major player in trading natural pearls. The natural untreated stones, natural pearls and jewellery items presented at Baselworld all have one thing in common – pure beauty and authenticity. Ronny Totah, CEO of Horovitz & Totah S.A..
