BWDN: What are the highlights of the new collections for Frédérique Constant and Alpina this year? Peter Stas: With 19 movements already to its name – all entirely designed, produced and hand-assembled at the manufacture in Plan-les-Ouates, near Geneva, Frédérique Constant and Alpina continue to add movements every year to their in-house collection. And this year is no exception. As a brand deeply involved with charitable causes for many years, Frédérique Constant is delighted to present the Oscar-winning actress and humanitarian Gwyneth Paltrow as its new global charity brand ambassador. Her natural and classic beauty, inspira- tional involvement in charity and indis- putable charisma make her the perfect match for our independent, family- owned Swiss watch brand. The Slimline Manufacture Perpetual is one of your new models this year. What is the thickness of this watch? This year, Frédérique Constant is investing in a new field of mechanical perfection by creating its first in-house perpetual calendar with the Slimline Perpetual Calendar Manufacture. A mechanical wonder, it will keep track of all the days of our lives for a century at a time. Designed in keeping with classic watchmaking principles and updated with innovative 21st century techniques, the Perpetual Calendar Manufacture has been created to meet customers’ require- ments, including robustness, reliability and easy adjustability. It has a diameter of 42 mm and a thickness of 11.6 mm. How have your smartwatches been received? We shipped over 16,000 Horological Smartwatches (HSW) in 2015. We have gained deep insight into user profiles, and have learned which functionalities customers like best. This is the basis for further development. In 2016, we will progressively introduce new and unex- pected functionalities for the current HSW module. We will also introduce at least one new calibre in the second half of this year, including an appealing ladies’ calibre. What is your production now, and how many of your own movements are you manufacturing? In 2015, we increased our production to 145,000 watches. Approximately 25 per- cent of these have manufacture calibres. With our target to grow production and sales to 155,000 watches in 2016, we will be able to let more people enjoy luxury. This core purpose is our reason for being, and the driver to live our passion. by Sabine Zwet tler 1.1, B79 F RÉDÉRIQ UE CONS TAN T ENRICHE S I T S M ANUFAC T URE LINE AND BUILDS ON I T S SU CCE SS W I T H SM A R T WAT CHE S Peter Stas, Founder and CEO of Frédérique Constant. eter Stas is the Founder and CEO of Frédérique Constant, an independent family- owned watch manufacturer based in Plan-les-Ouates, Geneva. For example, the world’s first vocational school was founded in Pforzheim. Devel- opments in other industries would have been inconceivable without the jewellery and watch trades. Methods first devel- oped for making jewellery or watches gave rise to numerous successful businesses in fields such as precision engineering, med- ical technology and metal finishing. Pforzheim begins its retrospective look at this history in November 2016.
