Hublot also celebrates the tenth anniversary of its “All Black” concept and foregrounds its commitment to the 2016 European Football Championship. BWDN: With a new watch made of sapphire, Hublot once again proves its innovative ability. How difficult is it to introduce new or unconventional materials into the watch industry? Ricardo Guadalupe: To realize these two exceptional limited editions, we worked with a Swiss partner who supplied us the sapphire cases. We are now working on the development of the tooling in order to install the machinery technolo- gy in-house. Since the first sapphire cases were made, we improved the fab- rication process and the knowledge about this technology. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the All Black collection, I decided to present a timepiece with all the All Black codes and with this philosophy: “the invisible visibility in a transparent sapphire and also in black sapphire”. The concept of the “All Black”, with which Hublot started new trends, is now ten years old. How are you cele- brating this anniversary? I f you go past Fabergé’s stand here at Baselworld, beware: you might not see it at first. You probably will be so busy taking in all of the details of this incredibly interesting watch dial that you just overlook it for a while. And then you see it: the man-in-the-moon decora- tion at the centre of the dial of the Dalliance Lady Levity that is the result of a technique that has never before been used this way in the world of watchmaking: printed platinum on a domed sapphire crystal that is topped off by white mother-of-pearl. As you can see, the intended effect is that you don’t see the face right off. And even more surprising: the unique technique means that the client can specify his or her own design for this space, provided it fits the dimensions of the corundum “canvas.” This design was inspired by a silver- plated enamel and rock crystal desk clock created by Fabergé workmaster Henrik Wigström in Saint Petersburg around 1910. And with its rock crystal man-in-the-moon taking up the centre even back then, Fabergé found it impos- W hen it comes to innovative materials in watchmaking, Rado has always been on the forefront. This year, it is strengthening its position again with the new Hyper- Chrome Ultra Light. Crafted from three incredibly light materials – silicon nitride ceramic, anodized aluminium, and hardened titanium – the timepiec- es’ minimalist design, its index-free dial and featherweight components cele- brate the art of simplicity. Naturally dark grey silicon nitride lends the light- weight matt monobloc case its notable hue. The dial is texturized with concen- tric grooves that gently sweep down- ward, reminescent of the soothing pat- terns sculpted in the sand of a zen gar- den. Sandblasted inserts made of hard- ened titanium, another Rado materials innovation, add to the HyperChrome Ultra Light’s featherweight feel, and the automatic movement’s anodized aluminum ébauche protects against cor- rosion and wear while significantly reducing the overall weight of the time- piece. A Nato strap complements the 56-gram limited-edition. MAN IN THE MOON ULTIMATE LIGHTNESS To celebrate this special anniversary for Hublot, we unveiled a brand new Big Bang Unico Sapphire All Black. It combines the sapphire and the All Black concept, this represents what we call “The Art of Fusion”. Moreover, like we did last year with the Big Bang Tour, we’ll do a road- show with the iconic All Black watches. Hublot is strongly committed to the world of sport. That has also now been transposed to the 36-mm rose gold Dalliance Lady Levity thanks to modern workmaster Jean-Marc Wiederrecht of Agenhor: styl- ised indicators in the form of a crescent moon (hours) and a rising sun (minutes) revolve around an otherwise quite clas- sic mother-of-pearl dial. HyperChrome Ultra Light, Rado. 1.0, A05 IN ITS NEWEST SPORT WATCH TIMEPIECES JOINING THE SERIES 800 COLLECTION, MOVADO DEF TLY BLENDS CLASSIC AND CHIC T his year, Movado unveils three all-new classic sport watches in the Movado Series 800 collec- tion. Blending design, performance and Swiss craftsmanship, the new pieces are all about attention to details. There are three men’s 3-hand watches – each with a bold but alluring coloured dial with matching bezels. The watches are offered in rich blue, grass green and black, and each fea- tures an inner matching-coloured reflector ring with white minute index printed on it. The watches are a harmo- nious blend of two-tone elegance, with silver-toned stick markers and a con- cave silver-toned signature dot at 12 o’clock. The date window is read via an aperture at 3 o’clock. Boldly standing out on the green, blue and black dials is the “Series 800” name beneath the silver-toned Movado name – in bright red. Powered by a Swiss quartz movement, each 40-mm watch is crafted of solid performance steel with sculpted extended lugs. A unidirectional gear-edged bezel in col- oured aluminium to match the dial features steel-toned markings to meas- ure elapsed time. The watch is protected by a screw- down case back, screw-down crown and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. The new Movado Series 800 watches are water-resistant to 200 metres and fin- ished with solid performance steel three-row link bracelets with polished and satin-finished links. For this special occasion, we launched two limited editions: the Big Bang Unico Chronograph Retrograde UEFA EURO 2016 and the Big Bang Unico Chrono- graph Retrograde UEFA Champions League with our in-house Unico move- ment, equipped with a module that allows the owner to see where we are in a match: first period, break, second period, etc. Moreover, we will invite some of our clients to attend some matches in France, where the UEFA EURO 2016 will take place. Many of Hublot’s partners likewise come from the world of sport. What connects you with these celebrities? Hublot is a young and very dynamic brand. We have sportive products, that’s why we have all these connections with sport. Moreover, this is thanks to Mr. Jean-Claude Biver, Chairman of Hublot and President of LVMH Watch Division, who allows Hublot to be partner of the FIFA and of Ferrari for instance. In 2008, Hublot was the first luxury brand to enter the football world. Now, we have the best partnerships in football: FIFA, UEFA, Juventus Turin, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Chelsea.
